The dive sipadna out as a classic wall dive before coming to a channel in 18 meters of water which frequently has strong currents pushing through it. Small hardy stubbly table corals, and porites pulzu dominate here, and these form the staple diet for packs of bumphead parrotfish, sometimes 40 or so strong. These months represent the middle of the wet season and although Pulau Sipadan and Mabul seldom experience much rain, the water and air temperature can be towards the cooler end of the usual range.

What a wonderful place to end our honeymoon. Turtle Patch is located in the southeast corner of Sipadan Island, just to the northeast of South Point. Pulwu divers in the pulauu found turtle skeletons resting in the silty bottom, unfortunate souls who entered the cave, became lost, and drowned before being able to make their way out again. Sipadan diving was great!!. Thanks a lot to kind staff. We found many inexperienced underwater photographers resting on corals, thrashing around with their fins and had to ‘lift’ quite a few of them off the corals in the course on only one dive.

Pelagic species such as manta rayseagle raysscalloped hammerhead ssipadan and whale sharks also visit Sipadan. The patrol guards stationed here will herd wanderers back to the jetty. For those wishing to meet the large school of bumphead parrotfish or hammerheads that may flow through with the currents – that’ll have to be very early in the morning.
